On 11 January, the Organizing Committee of the 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2023 convened a meeting to review the preparation for and organization of the Festival’s activities.
Participants in the meeting included: Mr. Pham Ngoc Nghi - Deputy Party Secretary, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province, Deputy Head of the Festival’s Steering Committee; Mr. Nguyen Tuan Ha - First Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Festival; Ms. H’Yim Kdoh - Vice Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province; representatives of the leaders of departments and committees; and representatives of a number of Dak Lak Province’s agencies and localities.
Overview of the meeting
According to a report at the meeting, in implementing the Master Plan on the 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2023, to date, there were plans in place for the organization of 18 key activities of the Festival. These included the Opening Ceremony, a coffee-themed exhibition, a workshop on the development of Viet Nam’s specialty coffee, a conference on bolstering international trade, a photo exhibition under the theme “Viet Nam’s coffee culture” and “History of the world’s coffee”; Dak Lak Province’s Ornamental Creature Exhibition and Contest; a street festival; a contest of farmers; a specialty coffee brewing contest; a light festival; a free coffee day; a contest of making fine art products from coffee trees; a contest of creating video clips to introduce Buon Ma Thuot’s coffee; the Buon Don Elephant Festival; the Boat-racing Festival in Lak District; experience tours to explore new tourism products; the performance of “Aspirations of Dam San”; and the Closing Ceremony. Relevant departments and agencies already received their assignments with regard to these activities.
Regarding cultural, sporting and tourism activities organized by localities to promote the Festival, to date, 11 districts, communes and cities have registered for the organization of such activities. Most notably, there will be sightseeing tours in the National Historic Sites of the CADA Plantation and the CADA Shrine; and the extended Dak Lak Lion - Dragon Dance Festival in the Central Highlands region in Krong Pak District.

In addition, relevant agencies were actively striving to convene press conferences on the Festival in three locations (including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Buon Ma Thuot) in February 2023. They would also promote the Festival through multiple channels. At the same time, the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province was instructing efforts to call for participation in the Festival’s activities.
At the meeting, delegates spent much time engaging in discussions and providing comments on the organization of key activities during the Festival, such as the Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony, and the Light Festival, among others.
In his remarks, Deputy Party Secretary, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province, Deputy Head of the Festival’s Steering Committee Pham Ngoc Nghi asked relevant departments and agencies to focus on effectively preparing for the Festival’s key programs and activities, while upholding the identity and tradition of their localities.

He underscored the need for the 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival to leave a unique impression that would be distinctive from that of the 7th and previous Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festivals. Thus, relevant agencies needed to work closely in the smooth organization of these festivities.
To ensure meticulous preparations for the Festival, First Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province, Head of the Organizing Committee Nguyen Tuan Ha emphasized that relevant agencies needed to review the plans for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, so as to ensure the high quality of such activities. They should also add contents related to “the creative city”, with a view to promoting the theme of the Festival, and focus on budgetary work to have the necessary funding in place for these festivities.
The 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2023 under the theme “Buon Ma Thuot - The world’s coffee destination” will take place from 10 to 14 March 2023 in Buon Ma Thuot City and a number of other localities within the province.
