Vietnamese coffee products and industry stakeholders are actively working to ascend to higher segments of the value chain, thereby enhancing both cultural significance and export value.

This commitment is a central theme of the upcoming 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival, titled “Buon Ma Thuot - The Coffee Destination of the World,” scheduled for March 9 to 13.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Ha, Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Province, highlighted that the province is strategically focusing on transitioning towards investing in the processing of key agricultural products, particularly coffee.

At a recent press conference for the festival, Mr. Ha announced that by 2025, Vietnam’s coffee exports are projected to achieve a new record, surpassing $5.4 billion. With rising prices benefiting local farmers, coffee remains one of the top 10 largest agricultural export sectors in the country.

Buon Ma Thuot, recognized as the “coffee capital of Vietnam,” boasts the largest coffee cultivation area and production volume in the nation. The province’s coffee is exported to hundreds of countries and territories around the globe, playing a vital role in the region’s socio-economic development. In 2024, the agricultural export value of Dak Lak Province reached $1.7 billion, with coffee contributing over $1.2 billion.

However, the current coffee exports are primarily in a semi-processed form. To enhance export value and ensure sustainable growth, Mr. Ha emphasized that Dak Lak Province is committed to transitioning its economy towards investing in the processing of key agricultural products, including coffee. The province is implementing policies aimed at facilitating rapid transformation, with the goal of reducing raw coffee exports while increasing the export of high-quality processed products.

“The province is presenting a comprehensive proposal to the government to establish Dak Lak as a global coffee destination, which will include the continued organization of the coffee festival. In this new phase of development, with increasing demands, the province requires fresh resources for growth, particularly in the coffee sector,” Mr. Ha stated.

The coffee festival will provide a platform for managers and businesses to connect, exchange ideas, and explore collaborative opportunities while showcasing the rich culture of coffee.

During this year’s festival, Dak Lak Province will inaugurate the Trung Nguyen Legend Coffee Energy Plant and host numerous promotional activities, trade initiatives, and networking events for both domestic and international enterprises. These efforts aim to strengthen the connection between production and export, expand market access, and maximize local resources while leveraging external support to drive rapid and effective economic development.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Tuan Ha also noted that the festival will feature participation from the CEO of the World Coffee Association, offering a valuable opportunity for managers and businesses to network, collaborate, and promote the unique culture of coffee alongside the province’s strengths and potentials.

In partnership with local authorities, coffee production and processing companies are investing substantial resources to modernize deep-processing techniques, ensuring they meet the demand for high-quality coffee products in major global markets. Ms. Phu Minh, a representative of the International American-Vietnam Group, shared that the company has invested in a state-of-the-art freeze-drying line for coffee. This advanced processing technology preserves the original flavor and beneficial properties of the coffee.

Ms. Vo Thi Ha Giang, Communications Director of Trung Nguyen Group, added that Vietnamese companies are progressively climbing the ranks in the global supply chain, offering packaged coffee products for export under well-established brands. They are also developing distribution networks in key markets, contributing to the global promotion of the philosophy of coffee culture.
